Background

New Orleans painter / sculptor James Michalopoulos was seeking a unique, colorful and exploratory website to underscore the vibrant personality of his artwork. Is it responsive? You bet! Eleven media queries in all, morphing for horizontal, vertical and device orientation.

As an artist, Mr. Michalopoulos wanted the ability to change the colors of his site at whim. We included several color pickers for the site that update a series of SVGs and CSS values to give his team full creative control. Not only do they have global values to manipulate, but each page has its own color controls as well.

They also wanted to display the artwork as large as possible without using thumbnails, so we integrated a mouseover event on medium-sized photos of his artwork that follows your mouse cursor to reveal the intimate details of the artwork. A structurally simple site at heart, but a playful experience to explore, with infinite scrolling and helpful back buttons/bars along the way.
