Restoring and digitizing over 2,000 photos, programs, audio files, and newspaper articles of the Junior Philharmonic Society of New Orleans that date back to 1948 on the Tulane Digital Media Library.

Background

The Junior Philharmonic Society of New Orleans was incorporated as a non-profit, cultural organization in the State of Louisiana in 1948 by Katherine Nolan Kammer. Its mission is to give talented young instrumentalists, vocalists and dancers an opportunity to perform in a recital held in a professional setting, and to teach music appreciation to children attending the programs.

I provided my services to the Junior Philharmonic Society of New Orleans when I was a Collat Media Intern at Newcomb College Institute of Tulane University. Each intern is paired with a faculty Mentor that has applied for a grant to fulfill the requirements of their grant proposal. The Reviving the Memories of the Junior Philharmonic Society grant proposal was an initiative to restore, digitize, and create metadata for over 2,000 photos, programs, audio files, and newspaper articles of the Junior Philharmonic Society of New Orleans that date back to 1948. The project spanned over 2 years and all of the content is now avaliable on the Tulane University Digital Media Library and the organization's website.
